Why Did I Select the Topic of Artificial Intelligence in the Sourcing and Recruiting Process?

Job Interview

Active Job Seeker

As an upcoming college graduate, I will be actively seeking employment in the next year.  What this means is that recruiters will be searching my name on LinkedIn and reviewing my resume.  I will also be undergoing screenings and interviews to determine my qualifications and fit for an organization.  Although I am the person attempting to get hired, I wanted to understand the sourcing and recruiting process from the perspective of a recruiter.  After researching hiring strategies, I realized that artificial intelligence and machine learning play a valuable role in how individuals are hired.  As a result, I developed an interest in learning more about how recruiters utilize machine learning algorithms to find and recruit job candidates.  Not only is it fascinating to observe the impact of AI on business, but I believe researching this topic will also help me to become a more informed job seeker.

Licensed Professional Certifications

In August of 2020, I enrolled in two classes of IBM’s Foundations of AI through edX and earned professional certificates from AI for Everyone: Master for Basics and Introduction to Watson AI.  These courses introduced the concepts of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and neural networks.  I learned about AI applications through IBM Watson and IBM Cloud.  Since the beginning of high school, I have been interested in understanding machine learning algorithms and deep learning.  Although I am a business student in college, AI is still a very relevant topic, especially in Silicon Valley.  After completing these courses, I wanted to become a financial analyst for a technology company like IBM or Salesforce.  Researching AI in the sourcing and recruiting process is a blend of two topics that I am passionate about.  Thus, being able to explore a different aspect of AI through this HRM E-Portfolio is exciting.

Interest in HR Practices

In my senior year of high school, I enrolled in Entrepreneurship and International Business which both touched on aspects of human resource management.  From that point forward, I became interested in organizational dynamics and employee performance.  This is the reason why I decided to major in Business Management at USF and enroll in BUS 342 as one of my upper-division courses.  I am fascinated by the responsibilities of human resource departments, and I consider the activities of sourcing, recruiting, training and development, and performance management to be essential features of any organization.  I wanted to explore the sourcing and recruiting process because I enjoy learning about talent management and I could see myself in the future potentially working such a job.
